Arch Books is a curated directory of professional book services for independent authors, small presses, and literary organizations based in Laval and across Quebec. Whether you are drafting your first chapter or preparing a backlist title for a new edition, this board connects you with the right expertise at the right stage. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all packages — every manuscript has its own needs, and our role is to help you identify exactly what yours requires.
Book service capability map
Browse our directory of specialized book services. Each cell represents a distinct discipline we support through vetted professionals.
Developmental editing
Deep structural analysis of your manuscript's narrative arc, character development, pacing, and thematic coherence. Ideal for fiction and long-form non-fiction projects that need foundational reshaping before line-level polish.
Copy editing and proofreading
Sentence-level clarity, grammar, consistency of style, and final error-catching. We follow the Chicago Manual of Style by default but adapt to publisher house styles or academic citation formats on request.
Cover art and typography
Genre-aware cover design that communicates the right signals to your target readership. From concept sketches through print-ready files, including spine and back-cover layout for trade paperback and hardcover formats.
Interior layout and typesetting
Professional interior design for print and ebook. Handling trim sizes, margins, running headers, drop caps, image placement, index formatting, and reflowable EPUB conversion with validated code.
Print-on-demand setup
Configuration of your title across IngramSpark, KDP Print, and regional distributors. Includes file preparation, metadata entry, pricing strategy guidance, and proof review coordination.
Audiobook narration and mastering
Narrator matching, studio recording coordination, ACX-compliant mastering, and distribution to Audible, Apple Books, and Kobo. We handle the technical specifications so you can focus on the listening experience.
Book marketing strategy
Launch planning, review solicitation, social media content calendars, newsletter funnel design, and Amazon category optimization. Tailored to your genre, audience size, and budget constraints.
Author platform development
Website creation, mailing list architecture, reader magnet strategy, and speaking engagement preparation. Building the long-term infrastructure that supports not just one book but an entire writing career.
French-English literary translation
Bilingual literary translation for Quebec authors seeking English-language markets, or English manuscripts requiring French editions for provincial distribution and grant eligibility requirements.
The author journey we support
Manuscript assessment
Before any editing begins, we read your complete draft and deliver a candid assessment memo covering strengths, structural concerns, market positioning, and a recommended service path. This typically takes five to seven business days and costs nothing beyond the assessment fee — no obligation to proceed.
Editorial development
Based on the assessment, you choose the depth of editing your manuscript needs. Some books need only a light copy edit; others benefit from a full developmental pass followed by a second-round review. We match you with an editor experienced in your genre.
Design and production
Cover design and interior layout happen in parallel once your manuscript is finalized. You receive three initial cover concepts and two rounds of revision. Interior proofs are delivered as paginated PDFs for your approval before files go to press.
Distribution and launch
We configure your title for print-on-demand and ebook distribution, set up your pre-order page, coordinate advance review copies, and build a launch-week promotional calendar. If you want audiobook production, that process runs on a parallel track.
Ongoing author support
After launch, we remain available for backlist optimization, second-edition revisions, series branding updates, and annual marketing check-ins. Many of our authors return for each new title, and we offer loyalty pricing for repeat projects.
